Our Shipping Market Review intends to provide a unique perspective on the shipping industry’s most significant long-term trends. To establish a reference point, we also address recent events and the short-term outlook.

In the latest report, we continue to explore the theme of falling utilisation of fleets as owners take delivery of vessels in increasingly competitive environments. Freight rates have been falling across the board and are low in most segments. Secondhand prices are under pressure from both lower earnings and a shorter expected economic life time of vessels. Demolition activity has been stepped up, and vessels are increasingly being scrapped prematurely, since few fleets have many old candidates left. Key to more permanent improvements is a continuation of the current low levels of ordering.
